StitchGrid in Claude and ChatGPT

Connect one URL, and the assistant you already use can price a garment, check a quote, and compare countries with StitchGrid's own numbers instead of a guess. With a StitchGrid key, it can also draft tech packs and follow your production.

01What it can do

Ask in your own words

Without an account

Free, and nobody needs to sign up.

  • “What would 500 heavyweight hoodies cost to make?”

A should-cost range built from fabric, sewing time, and labor rates, with the arithmetic shown.

    estimate_cost

  • “Is $14 a unit from this factory fair?”

Places a quote against what the style should cost, so you know whether to push back.

    check_quote

  • “Is it cheaper to make this in Portugal or Vietnam?”

The same style priced across the countries that span the cost curve.

    compare_countries

  • “Who can make knit cardigans at 300 units?”

How much of the vetted network fits, as counts and ranges. It never names a factory.

    find_manufacturers

  • “Get me quotes for this.”

Hands the request to the StitchGrid production office, with your permission to contact you.

    start_sourcing_request

With a StitchGrid API key

Every public tool, calibrated by your own quote history, plus your workspace.

  • “Draft the tech pack for this brief.”

Drafts a tech pack from a brief or a product page into your workspace, for you to review.

    draft_tech_pack

  • “The factory just messaged that PO-1042 slips to the 12th.”

Files the update as a proposal in your inbox. Nothing changes until a person approves it.

    log_factory_update

  • “What needs me today?”

The briefs, samples, and orders waiting on you, most urgent first.

    needs_attention

  • “Where is the HT12236 sample?”

Finds and reads any brief, sample, tech pack, or order your role can see.

    search and fetch

02Connect it

One URL, about a minute

The server speaks Streamable HTTP. Add the URL with no sign-in for the public tools, or with your key for everything.

https://www.stitchgrid.com/api/mcp

Claude, on the web or desktop

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
  2. Paste the URL above and choose no sign-in.
  3. For your workspace, add a request header named Authorization with the value Bearer and your key.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds it under Organization settings.

ChatGPT

  1. Turn on developer mode in ChatGPT's settings, on the web.
  2. Create a connector, paste the URL above, and set authentication to none.

ChatGPT gets the public tools for now, because it does not accept API keys.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http stitchgrid https://www.stitchgrid.com/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer sg_sk_…"

Leave off the header for the public tools.

Cursor and other clients

Add a remote server with the URL above. For member tools, send the header Authorization: Bearer followed by your key.

An owner or admin makes a key in StitchGrid under Integrations, then API. The key is shown once, along with the Claude Code command to paste. Make a key.

03What it will not do

An assistant that stays inside the lines

An assistant can ask for anything. These are the limits the server holds, whoever is calling.

Nothing anonymous calls a model

Without a key there is nobody to bill and nobody to review a draft, so tech packs are drafted only for members. A public request for one goes to a person instead.

No factory is named

The public finder reports the network as counts, countries, and ranges, and stays silent about any group small enough to identify a factory.

No approvals from a chat

An assistant can propose a change to an order. Approving it stays with a person in StitchGrid, where the evidence is.

No emails on your behalf

Chasing a factory goes through StitchGrid, where it is recorded, never as a message sent from inside a chat.

Factory prices only

Cost answers are FOB at the factory door and say so. Freight and duty are left out until the tariff tables can be trusted.

Keys stay bounded

A key acts as the person who made it, with their current role. Keys expire within a year, are read or write, and every write is recorded against the key.

04Questions

Common questions

Is there an MCP server for apparel manufacturing?
Yes. StitchGrid runs one at https://www.stitchgrid.com/api/mcp. Without an account it prices garments, checks quotes, compares countries, and starts sourcing requests. With a StitchGrid API key it also drafts tech packs and reads and updates your briefs and production.
Which assistants does it work with?
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP. That includes Claude on the web and desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT with developer mode turned on, and Cursor.
What does it cost?
The public tools are free and need no account. Member tools run under your workspace's plan, and drafting a tech pack uses AI credits the same way it does in the app.
Can I use my StitchGrid account from ChatGPT?
Not yet. ChatGPT connects to servers that need no sign-in or that use OAuth, and does not accept API keys. Until StitchGrid supports OAuth, ChatGPT gets the public tools, and member tools work from Claude, Claude Code, and Cursor.
Will the assistant see my factories' names?
Your own suppliers, yes, when you connect with your key, because they are yours. Factories in the StitchGrid network are always masked.

Try it

Ask what it should cost.

Add the URL to your assistant and ask what your next style should cost to make. When you want the answer in your own workspace, make a key.
